This was my first plein air painting and what a struggle it was! We were in the hill country west of Austin and the weather was cold, which is not the norm for Texas. I saw this cactus in the shape of a heart and it was in a sunny place out of the wind which was perfect for me since I’m a wimp when it comes to cold weather. The colors in the cactus and the grasses attracted me to use this as a painting subject.
